Abstract
The Diamond back moth (Plutella xylostella) is one of the destructive insect pests of cruciferous vegetables. In order to supply basic information for establishment of effective management program, dynamics of population and damage of P. xylostella were monitored at brassica vegetable fields in Vinh Long and Soc Trang provinces by use of sex pheromone traps and field survey. P. xylostella presented and damaged at surveyed fields through out the crop season with the dynamics of population and damage kept at low level at the early crop season and then gradually increased until before harvest (exception at broccoli field). Furthermore, the numbers of captured males tightly correlated with damage ratios (correlation coefficient r = 0.74- 0.98) indicating that sex pheromone trap is able to be utilize as tool for monitoring the popualtion dynamics and supplying action threshold for timing control of P. xylostella in field.
